If this is your first gift, please check that you are on the member list. If you are not on there, you need to sign up.

Then send us a note entitled "Send art" and include the following in the body of the message.
I agree to make something lovely for the person I have been given, and I won't forget to include the Art ID in the envelope or parcel!

All the requests are assigned once a week (at present, Sundays), so be patient. You will then get a reply with the "profile" of the person you have been assigned, their address and the Art ID which you must include.

You are now free to make your gift! Their profile might give you some clues as to what they would like... or it might not, use your imagination! You are free to use any medium you choose as long as it's something you can send in the mail.

If you want to upload it to your deviantART so we can add it to the group, that's great! If you want to take a picture or a scan now but upload it later when it has been safely received so that they don't come across it by accident that's cool too. We won't add it to the group until it's been registered as received.

Now take it to the post office and send it on its way! Don't forget the Art ID :XD:

Limits
:bulletblack: You can only receive one ID every week (Monday-Sunday). This is to ensure that people dedicate themselves to each gift rather than trying to do too many and not do any of them well.
:bulletblack: You can also only have three gifts in progress at any one time. This includes ones which have been mailed but not registered yet. When someone registers a gift as received, you will be able to send more. If you want to check how many gifts you currently have in progress at any time, you can have a look at the member list.

Hey, I would like another profile, so I can send another gift. I have a week off this upcoming week so I have plenty of time to work on it.

I'm not on the list, but I sent a membership request and told I was accepted. Should I still send a note to the group?

You're there now. I only update the journals about once a week (you were on a list of 'people to be added' before that), usually on Sundays.

Do we have to send the note to the group (the button on the group-page) or to one of the admins?

I sent a message to the group over a week ago and did not get any reply. I know you are all human here so it takes its time to answere all notes. Im just wondering if I did the right thing. :D

Haha, how funny, it looks like you wrote this just as I was replying to you earlier! You did everything right. But you normally won't get a reply until the Sunday after you made the request - I do them all in one go once a week; firstly it's easier for me and secondly it makes more sense so I can try to make sure people don't have people they've had already and so on. As I mentioned in the reply to your note, I was a couple of days late this week - sorry about that ^^;

OK so basically if you want to send something, you note you guys, then on Sunday you get your person, then you make something and mail it with everything like art Id? Uh. What IS an art ID? :XD:

I registered in august, and am still not on the members list. I would love to send some art off in the near future :3 When will the list be updated?

Join requests are currently closed - see this blog for more info - so it doesn't actually make a difference that you're not on the list yet. They will open again in the next few days. I'll make sure to update the member list before I do that so that everyone can participate :)

I'm going away on Thursday so I'll probably update it one single time shortly before I go.

If you're asking because you want to send a gift, please bear in mind that you can currently only send a gift if you joined the group before August. Watch the group journal for an update on when we are fully open to "send art" requests. It will be in the first week of September.

May I start 3 and take 3-4 weeks to complete all 3? My medium of choice is oil paints, and as a result, it takes a lot of time because I need to layer...if I make a mistake, I have to wait for it to dry first. It also gives me something to take a break from if I get tired of one or the other.

Also, what do you mean when you say I must include an Art ID? I'm not entirely certain what you mean when you say to include it. o_O?

Thank you very much!

OOoh wait I just read below.
So the Art ID doesn't have to be painted on or anything, just included like on a notecard and it'd be ok?

Yeah, that's fine. Just include it on a note or letter or something in the envelope.

Yes, you can do that, but I'd prefer you only took 1 or 2 on until your first gift is registered. We had some problems with new members taking on more than they could handle before so we made a new rule about that, even though I'm sure in your case it would be fine.

Ok 2 is fine if you're only comfortable with 2.
I prefer 3 so I can get them done during the brief period I'm certain I have freetime in.
But whichever you're most comfortable with is fine by me.
Just let me know who so I can cater the gift to them specifically. =)

Thanks!

I'm normally slow at making gifts. Will being slow be a problem?
Reply

Itti Featured By Owner Jan 31, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
Depends on what you call slow... The guidelines are to get your gift finished and within the mail within 1-2 weeks. That means that with international delivery times and so on they should receive it in less than a month.

If you're too busy to get it done in a couple of weeks, it might be better to wait until you have less on? :)

It's a mail exchange, so yes. Many of our members are crafters and there's not much point in someone making you a bracelet or plushie or something and not being able to get it to you!

We never share the addresses with anyone except the artists who are assigned to make them for you and they are never passed on or posted anywhere publicly. :)

How should an Art ID look like? Never heard about an Art ID before! Is that a title or the artist's sign or ...? xD
Reply
:iconitti:
Itti Featured By Owner Feb 24, 2011  Hobbyist General Artist
It is a 'code' that the artist will include in their gift, then when the recipient has safely received it they tell us the code and then we will know which gift it was that has been safely received.

They look something like this: 1101-261C.

How do we do this art ID thing? do we just randomly make something up? is there a generator for this type of thing...?

When I assign you a profile I'll also give you an Art ID and it should be much clearer then. They look something like this: 1201-55X.
